Mother giraffes pass spot patterns down to offspring, study says

Baby giraffes inherit their spot patterns from their mothers, a study published in PeerJ suggests. Researchers collected and examined photos of mother-calf pairs over four years, noting similarities in the size, shape and color of their spots.
