Bamboo has been the main food for giant pandas for only about 5,000 years, not 2 million years as previously thought, a study published in Current Biology suggests. Researchers examined bones and teeth from both 2.6 million-year-old panda fossils and modern pandas, with chemical signatures suggesting the creatures used to eat a wider variety of food.
