The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency has released footage of the Hayabusa2 spacecraft landing on and attempting to gather material from the surface of the asteroid Ryugu last month. The footage shows the spacecraft descending, then kicking up dust and debris as it fires a projectile into the asteroid’s surface.
Remember, it is so far away everything must be autonomous. No commands from Earth possible. Why does it have to fire the projectile?
