A gorgeous new photo from the Hubble Space Telescope depicts Messier 90, a spiral galaxy roughly 60 million light-years away from our own Milky Way — but getting closer.
Hubble image shows faraway galaxy is moving toward Milky Way

A spiral galaxy called Messier 90, seen in an image taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, is moving closer to the Milky Way instead of away, like most other galaxies, Hubble scientists say. The shorter wavelengths of light given off by Messier 90, which is about 60 million light-years away, suggest it is moving toward Earth. click on the title above to read the short article and learn how astronomers measure direction of movement by shifting in the light spectrum – shortening wavelengths (getting closer) getting bluer, lengthening wavelengths (moving farther away) getting redder.
