Dog whimpers prove more compelling than cat sounds

Pet owners are more sensitive to distress sounds from animals than people who don’t own pets, and even cat owners said dog whimpers sounded more sad than cat whimpers, according to findings published in Royal Society Open Science. “The result suggests that dogs, more effectively than cats, communicate distress to humans and that pet ownership is linked to greater emotional sensitivity to these sounds,” said study author Christine Parsons.  click title above to open article
