Venus might have once been able to support life

An unknown catastrophic event that occurred about 700 million years ago resurfaced Venus, stripping away a climate that was once similar to Earth’s and turning it into the ultrahot, uninhabitable planet it is today, according to findings presented at the EPSC-DPS Joint Meeting 2019. “Our hypothesis is that Venus may have had a stable climate for billions of years,” said researcher Michael Way.
