Astronauts growing zinnias on space station
Astronauts on the International Space Station are growing zinnias with their lettuce crop, according to NASA. The colorful flowers are part of an experiment dubbed Veggie, which could lead to astronauts producing their own fresh fruits and vegetables when on lengthy space flights. “Growing a flowering crop is more challenging than growing a vegetative crop such as lettuce. Lighting and other environmental parameters are more critical,” said project scientist Gioia Massa. The Christian Science Monitor (11/17)
