Tiny blindfolds don’t keep caterpillars from sensing colors

Peppered-moth caterpillars are particularly good at camouflaging themselves, changing their color to match whatever twig they are sitting on just by sensing their surroundings, a study in Communications Biology suggests. Researchers obscured the caterpillars’ vision to test this ability, and in each test the caterpillars blended with their surroundings successfully. Caterpillars molt many times over their lives, so the research subjects regained their eyesight soon after the experiments. For more information click on the article’s title above.
