Exposure to blue light accelerated aging, damaged cells in fruit flies
Prolonged exposure to blue light produced by light-emitting diodes in smartphones, computer screens and household light fixtures damages cells in the retina and brain and might accelerate aging, researchers reported in Aging and Mechanisms of Disease. Fruit flies exposed to blue light had significantly shorter lifespans than those exposed to other light wavelengths, and the researchers suggested that filtering or blocking blue light might blunt the effects.
