Scientists say they know how Blue Ring Nebula formed

The Blue Ring Nebula, which looks like an eye in ultraviolet observations, is the result of a star merger, according to findings published in Nature. Astronomers say the central yellow dot is what remains of the actual star merger, the blue ring that surrounds it is the expanding debris cloud and the magenta ring around that is part of the shockwave.
