Researchers at the IEEE Aerospace Conference proposed storing a bank of DNA from 6.7 million species of animals, fungi and plants on the moon to preserve biodiversity in the event of a worldwide catastrophe. The plan would require 250 trips to the moon or more to deliver the material and store it in a network of lava tubes beneath the lunar surface.
