There may be a number of exoplanets in our galaxy that could have been formed with a high carbon-to-oxygen ratio, allowing them to be made of mostly diamond, a study in The Planetary Science Journal suggests. Researchers — who tested samples of silicon carbide that had been immersed in water in a diamond anvil cell and exposed them to extreme pressures then heated them with lasers — found they were converted into silica and diamond.
