Cities are last resorts for some wildlife
Some threatened species, such as blue land crabs in Colombia and burrowing owls in Florida, have begun adapting to human-built environments, taking up residence in pastures and plantations, below concrete structures, and even in sewage canals. Some species are doing better in cities than outside them, and scientists are studying urban wildlife to learn more about how species adapt and how we can make cities and towns more accommodating to them.
