Radar measurements beamed from NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter have confirmed a cave on the moon for the first time, and researchers describe it in Nature Astronomy as at least 40 meters wide. The cave could provide shelter for future astronauts during lunar missions, shielding them from cosmic rays and radiation from the sun and providing them with a mostly ready-made habitat.
