Lifestyle may have played role in near extinction of giant otter

An Amazon river otter species’ social lifestyle may have contributed to its near extinction by making it easier to find by early 20th century hunters in search of pelts, a stu3cdy published in PLOS ONE suggests. The giant otters live in large groups that include a single monogamous pair, and the group would scatter if one member of the pair was killed, researchers say.
