Earth’s ocean wilderness areas shrinking, study suggests

The number of the world’s ocean wilderness areas, places with high levels of biodiversity that are barely affected by human activity, is dwindling, according to a study in Current Biology. The study classifies only 13.2% of the world’s oceans as wilderness, with just under 5% of that within marine protected areas, and researchers are calling for better conservation efforts.
